Well, I've finally written a book. It's an autobiography titled, "Memoirs of a Tailgunner." Now people might think this is all about war, but my WWII experiences are only one part of this book. It has 372 pages...which is alot to fill up with words...but I've had a long and eventful life. Actually, I feel that I've had 7 different lives...each new one beginning or ending with some kind of traumatic occurence. Now, you might ask why the title points toward a war experience and not something else...perhaps "Memoirs of a Teacher" or "Memoirs of a Thespian" or "Memoirs of a Dad", etc. The fact is that my experience in a war was the biggest influence in my life, and so the title.
Now, I'm happy to say that the manuscript has been published and can be purchased only on the web at http://www.lulu.com/. Actually it's two books. The
addenda contains most all of the poetry I've ever written, and I have had that portion of the book published separately under the title, "ADDENDA a Book of Poetry." I have sent a copy of MEMOIRS to each of my children, to my friends and former colleagues Bernie Shulman and Phil Bergovoy; to Geri, my wife Rhoda's sister and also her brother, Barry. The book is pretty expensive...except for the poetry book which is only priced at $12. It took me 13 months to finish the manuscript which I typed on the computer. If I had to use a typewriter, I don't think it would have ever been done! Buy my book! You won't be sorry.

I heartily endorse ADDENDA which is outstanding in both form and content. Even if I did not love the author and his family, I would have greatly enjoyed and appreciated this volume of verse.
"MEMOIRS...." is at least .50 caliber. Not only did it portray the life of a modern Renaissance Man, it also encapsulated the spirit of an era that many have called, "America's Finest Hour."
The Doc will recall that way back in the '60s, I urged him to write a book about his experiences and those of his generation.
My feeling was that fiction would be preferable because it would permit the introduction of certain material that might not be appropriate in a memoir. That's your next assignment, Doc Ross, may your tribe increase.
Nevertheless, "MEMOIRS...." is a significant addition to the genre of confessional literature, featuring wit, wisdom, and ruthless standards of personal excellence.
Let's hear it for the Doc:

I read ADDENDA because my cousin, Norman hand delivered it to my wife and I on a recent visit to Florida. I am not an expert in poetry, but it is truly soulful.
As for "Memoirs", I have gotten through the first 50 pages and will continue to read. I owe that my to my dear cousin.
I've read the pre-published ADDENDA and several chapters of MEMOIRS(I'll save my pennies and buy the hard copy!); both take me back to wonderful memories of my beloved "Doc," the master teacher who inspired me with his readings of poetry and prose -- and his wonderful Elizabethan delivery -- and who belived in me long before I belived in myself. Doc, you were always a hero to me, but only recently have I learned of your heroism during WWII and the experiences that challenged you to overcome. I have the utmost respect for you -- and I love you with all my heart. Yes, Phil B., let's give a cheer: Hooray for you Dr. Norman Ralph Ross!
I told Norman to READ a book. I guess he misunderstood me and WROTE a book.
Thank you for the pictures. I never would have read it without the illustrations.
This gentleman, who I am proud to call a friend, adds the necessary class to our group of seniors foraging for the best "early bird dinner" out there....Mike
I really appreciate all the very nice things you all have said to me. It's really a warm feeling to know that I have such good friends. Thank you so much.
You said you have no more goals, and now I see you've discovered the word "blog," figured out how to create your own blog, and now have entries and comments! Oy.
Murray and I are also very proud of what you have accomplished so late in life, even though we have not read your memoirs yet. We were not one of the friends that you gave the book to. Just because you're not high up on our list? Oh well. I know I could never remember what happened 40 or more years back. I did read a couple of verses in the Addenda though. Pretty cool.
